Redmoor Academy’s Physical Education Department has a vision to provide the opportunity for all pupils to access the PE curriculum, and allow all pupils to fulfil their potential in the subject.
The PE department commits fully to both curricular and extra curricular activities that provide pupils with opportunities that help to motivate and engage in a lifelong commitment to physical activity. We aim to raise achievement, self esteem and contribute to the wider community.
Physical Education has a unique contribution to make to the overall development of the pupils in terms of personal, social and physical attributes. Pupils will learn to understand safe participation, recognising and following relevant rules, laws, codes, etiquette and safety procedures for different activities. This will promote health and positive lifestyles through physical activity.
The PE department has an exciting and varied curriculum. Pupils undertake two hours of Physical Education a week, in which pupils learn various skills through different sporting activities.
Pupils learn to: outwit opponents in invasion games; perform accurate replication in gymnastics; perform at maximal levels in athletics; exercise safely and efficiently in health-related fitness, and identify and solve problems across the curriculum.
Pupils will gain experience from a range of activities including football, rugby, netball, basketball, gymnastics, health-related fitness, cross country, badminton, hockey, tennis, cricket, rounders and athletics.
Extra Curricular activities play an important part in Redmoor life and as a department we run an extensive program of extra curricular clubs at lunch time and after school in, football, netball, rugby, cricket, athletics, rounders, fitness, basketball, tennis, gymnastics and trampolining.
We also provide opportunities for pupils to take part in many other sports with the use of external coaches.
We offer activities for all pupils regardless of ability and have strong links with local sports clubs to allow our pupils to further their love of sport outside school. Our aim is to encourage life long learning in terms of physical activity, and pupils to leave Redmoor with a healthy attitude towards health related activity.
We are proud of our pupils and their achievements and we are now very competitive in our local leagues; our year 9s have won their football league 3 years in a row. We came 2nd overall in the annual Westfield Athletics competition, a huge improvement on previous years and we aim to go one better this year!
