Special Educational Needs

Redmoor Academy is well-known for its excellence in Special Educational Needs. We have a strong team of professionals who are trained to deliver a variety of intervention programmes to ensure that all pupils, despite their additional needs, achieve their full potential.

We have good relationships with external agencies and are able to access specialist advice and support from a variety of services. Agencies that we work closely with include, Educational Psychology Service, Autism Outreach Service, Community Paediatricians, Occupational Therapists, and Speech and Language Therapists.

We are also fortunate to have Dorothy Goodman Special School on site. Teachers and Learning Support Assistants are able to share expertise, resources and training opportunities and an identified group of pupils benefit from a dual timetable and enhanced extra-curricular activities.

In addition to this, we have developed strong links with the local primary schools and upper schools so that we can work together to organise a tailor-made transition programme for pupils with special educational needs, to ensure smooth transition throughout the Key Stages.

Our aim is to ensure that every pupil at Redmoor is achieving their full potential, whilst enjoying these crucial educational years.

We can offer tailor-made support programmes for each individual, we value and fully endorse the Every Child Matters agenda and pride ourselves on the professional and pro-active approach we adopt when liaising with parents and working alongside agencies.

The School Nurse runs a drop-in session every two weeks on a Monday lunchtime. Our areas of expertise include mentoring, behaviour support programmes, anger management, emotional development, relationship issues and many more. We look to support all pupils through their journey from Key Stage 2 to Key Stage 4 and strive to make their time at Redmoor as rewarding and beneficial as possible.
