Work Experience – June 24th to June 28th 2019

As a school, we firmly believe that work experience is a valuable part of a student’s education and in their preparation for the world of work. To help us make this a successful and worthwhile experience, we use the services of the Leicester Education Business Company (LEBC) to support us in this process, as we do not have the necessary resources in-house.

Key facts:

  • Work Experience is a compulsory part of the Year 10 curriculum at Redmoor Academy.
  • The programme is no longer funded by the government, but we believe so strongly in the benefits of the work experience, that we are subsidising each placement.  The fee to Redmoor is £60 per placement, of which we ask you to pay £35.
  • All Year 10 students will be given copies of the Redmoor Application Form  and Redmoor Self Placement Form by their tutor, on Friday 7th September 2018.
  • Completed forms must be returned to tutors by Tuesday 23rd October 2018.
  • To help your child to fully appreciate the demands of the working world and to enable them to develop their independence and communication skills, we ask that you avoid arranging for them to work within your place of employment.
  • Forms cannot be processed without the £35 payment. This should be made via ParentMail by Tuesday 23rd October 2018.

There are two options:

  1. Students choose two preferred industry sectors from LEBC’s Student Directory 2018-19, and ask LEBC to find a placement on their behalf. For this option, the student only needs to complete the main Redmoor Application Form.
  2. Students identify a company that they would like to work for and get agreement from that company that the work experience can go ahead and take place during the week commencing Monday 25th June 2018. LEBC will then carry out all of the necessary checks to enable that placement to proceed. For this option, the student needs to complete the main Redmoor Application Form and arrange for the Self-Placement Form to be completed by the employer.

The students have been walked through the process by their tutor, to help them understand how to complete the forms. A copy of the information they were given is here.
