Year 11 Mock Exams: November 2024
All Year 11 students will be completing a two-week period of mock examinations commencing on Monday 11th November and running through until Friday 22nd November. For students of MFL, speaking exams will also take place during the week beginning Monday 25th November. There will also be Health and Social Care PSA Coursework and practical examinations in Art, Photography and 3D Design during this third week.
Mock exams provide students with an authentic experience of revising for and completing exam papers, supporting the fine-tuning of their independent study habits and approaches to terminal tests. They also provide teachers with greater understanding of where individual students are in their journey towards achieving their potential, helping them to identify gaps in both knowledge and skills and ensure that the remaining curriculum time is effectively spent for all learners. Most crucially, mock outcomes are used to identify students in need of greater support throughout the remainder of Year 11. In short, we need to see what students really know and can really do.
The 2024 Year 11 Mock Exam Timetable can be found here.
As parents and carers, we ask you to support us in ensuring that students begin preparing effectively for these mock examinations. The link below shows you the content to be examined in each subject as well as revision guidance given by teachers to aid your discussions.
Year 11 Mocks Content & Revision Guidance
Experience tells us that it really helps when parents:
- Help to create the time and environment for dedicated study – for example, you might support your child in making and sticking to a revision timetable with weekly study time for each subject planned out.
- Support children to work independently on their revision for around two hours each day, making use of the resources provided by their teachers as well as the brilliant GCSEPod.
- Ensure that revision notes and resources are of a high quality and are kept carefully organised for future use.
Since the start of term our Year 11 tutors have delivered a programme of lessons during PSHCE time to support students in developing their motivation and resilience, alongside the understanding of what effective revision is. Students have recapped our key strategies (Cornell notes, mind-maps and flashcards), have created revision resources, devised ways to test their retention of this knowledge and examined how to organise their time effectively. There should be no student without the understanding or ability to make a start on their revision.
Further tips for parents and carers can be found on our school website in our Effective Learning Strategies and Supporting Year 11 sections.
If you do have any subject-specific questions, please contact your child’s class teacher directly. A full directory of email addresses can be found on our school website. All other enquiries should be made to the tutor in the first instance.
We are immensely proud of the commitment being shown by Year 11 since their return in August. They are a credit to themselves, to you and to our Redmoor community. If you have any questions then please do not hesitate to contact us.
