Here to Help

15th November 2022Miss H WRIGHT

The cost of living crisis is affecting everyone this winter with individuals, families and also schools feeling the pinch of increased prices and stagnant budgets and we want to support those families in our school community who are impacted the most. We want to do everything we can to help you and your child/children through this difficult winter.

Below is a list of support available to you and your family as the cost of living continues to rise, these range from energy bill advice to free tea and toast for all students.

Free School Meals (FSM)

If your child is eligible for free school meals (FSM) they will need to be registered. This allows students to eat well at school, more information can be found here. This also contains a link which takes you directly to Leicestershire County Council’s application form.

Free Tea and Toast for all Redmoor Students

Since the start of this academic year EVERY Redmoor student is able to drop into the canteen between 8.20-8.30 am for FREE tea and toast before school starts. We would love it if more children made use of it as we know a warm breakfast really helps set them up for the day. Part of our vision is that our students eligible for FSM can have breakfast, a break time snack, hot meal, pudding and drink at lunch and will be well fed.

Local Food Banks

  • Please call 0300 330 2111 to speak to Leicestershire Citizens’ Advice, who will be able to issue you with a foodbank voucher if necessary.
  • Use food waste apps and websites like Olio (for free food and household items from your local community), Too Good To Go (for low cost food from local restaurants), or Low Price Foods (food that has passed its best before date, but is still safe to consume).

Household Support Fund

The Government is continuing with the Household Support Fund until March 2023 offering financial support to families with the significant rising cost of living. If you would like help with a referral please contact a member of the Redmoor pupil premium team.

Check you’ve received all the government’s cost of living payments

The government’s cost of living payment is available for those receiving certain benefits or tax credits. You don’t need to apply for these – if you’re eligible the money should go straight into your account.

Be aware of scams! If you receive any emails, texts or phone calls asking you to fill in an application form or asking for your bank details to receive a cost of living payment, do not talk to them or send a reply. Get more information on cost of living scams on the Money Saving Expert’s website

Energy Bills

Take a look at these resources from Simple Energy Advice, the British Gas Energy Trust and the Money Saving Expert website to see what you could save.

Citizens Advice Bureau (CAB)

CAB can help you with:

  • Getting benefits or other financial support organised
  • Accessing support for essential costs (food, bills, rent)

Visit the Citizens Advice’s website or contact your local branch to book an appointment;

  • Call the Citizens Advice line: tel. 0808 278 7854 (Monday-Friday 9am-4.30pm)
  • Contact Citizens Advice online: Advice in Hinckley & Bosworth (citizensadviceleicestershire.org)

At Redmoor we will put the cost of living at the heart of any decisions we make, we research low cost options and subsidise, where possible, the trips and opportunities we make available to our students.

We also offer second hand, good quality uniform/PE kit items, equipment and revision guides at very low prices or free for pupil premium students. With this in mind any donations that can be used for the benefit of other children would be very welcome.

If you have any further questions on any of the above information or would like help with a referral please get in touch.

REC 2023!

14th October 2022Miss H WRIGHT

Redmoor Academy are pleased to announce the launch of their Redmoor Enrichment Course (REC) for 2023!

Staff have been busy over the summer months planning a variety of trips and experiences for our REC programme which is taking place 19th – 23rd June 2023. We have many UK based trips again this year and an additional overseas trip to Italy. We believe this programme of choices will build confidence, resilience and independence in our students and is unique to Redmoor in the breadth and quality of what is offered.

Choosing from our offer of 16 different programmes, students need to have completed the Google electronic form with their 3 options (in no ranked order) by no later than Sunday 6th November 2022.  This form has been emailed to your child’s Redmoor e-mail address and a copy of the REC booklet and our assembly slides can be found on our website.

We have launched this with the students in an assembly today. Please take the time to carefully read what is on offer, talk through the options with your child and encourage them to “try something new”. We ask that students select 3 courses that they would be interested in doing and we will then endeavour to allocate every student with 1 of these 3 options. The options are not ranked; therefore it is important that students want to experience all 3 of their options. If students are interested in a residential experience, we are asking students to choose a maximum of two residential plus one non-residential trip. They can, of course, choose all non residential as well.

Please read carefully our terms and conditions at the back of the booklet.

Although we have made every effort to ensure that the pricing of trips are as accurate as possible, they may be subject to change due to the current unstable financial climate. Parents will be notified as soon as possible if there are any changes. Pupil Premium students will be entitled to a £50 subsidy towards the total cost of the trip; this will automatically be allocated.

Anyone wishing to seek financial assistance must apply in writing in the first instance to Mrs Sulley, Business Manager.

We are really looking forward to once again providing our students with a variety of opportunities to experience and enjoy as part of their holistic development.

Please click here for the REC 2023 brochure.

Art and Photography London Visit

30th September 2022Miss H WRIGHT
Last week our 11 Art & Photography students had the opportunity to add to their portfolio with a trip to London.
Our students visited the Tate Modern where they had the chance to engage with the artwork in the exhibition called ‘Media Networks’ to see how artists have responded to the impact of mass media.
They then walked along the Thames and over London bridge and past the Tower of London, having the chance to photograph some of London’s landmarks and skylines. The last stop to photograph was St Dunstan Church which is an over grown church that was bombed in the second world war.
We look forward to seeing the outcomes of this visit year 11! For now, here is a showcase of some of their current work:

Important Information for the Start of Term

Due to a delay with the new electricity sub-station powering our upcoming Science Block and Sports Hall, some temporary changes will be in place:

• Students must wear PE kit to school on PE days until the new Sports Hall is open.
• Please ensure they bring spare footwear and socks in case of wet weather.
• Students will receive timetables on their first day, so no PE kit is needed on the first day back.

We appreciate your support and understanding as we manage this situation and will update you as soon as our new facilities are ready.
