Supporting those affected by the conflict in Ukraine

30th March 2022Miss H WRIGHT
To support those affected by the conflict in Ukraine whilst continuing our Philanthropy theme, there will be some fundraising and other activities going on across the school next week. This is where we can all get involved and make a real difference to the lives of others.
To start the week, we will be organising a collection of essential items that are needed by victims of the war in Ukraine. Items can be brought in from Monday and these will be collected on Thursday. Items that are needed urgently are:
  • torches with batteries
  • bandages
  • first aid kits
  • toothbrushes and toothpaste
  • disposable bowls and cutlery
  • nappies
  • sanitary products
If you are able to contribute to this collection, every little helps.
On Friday 8th April, we will be having an extra non-uniform day where we are asking students to wear something blue or yellow.
There will be a minimum donation of £1 which will be donated to support the victims of the war in the Ukraine. All students who wear blue or yellow will also be given 2 house points.
And finally, we will be having a tutor competition where tutor groups will be asked to make the longest line of coins. Each tutor group will be asked to bring in coins which can be used to construct the line. The tutor group who makes the longest line in each year group will win a prize and house points. All the coins collected will be used to buy additional essential items.
We thank you for your support.

World Book Day

8th March 2022Miss H WRIGHT
We would like to thank all of our students and staff for making World Book Day so fantastic last week. It was great to see so many of you taking part in the different activities throughout the day.

Well done to those of you that completed our staff fancy dress quiz and to all of our bakers. The quality of cakes that were created by students was outstanding, we were blown away by your efforts!

We hope that you enjoy the free books (if you managed to find one from the Redmoor book fairy!) and make sure to pass on your reviews to your literacy teachers.

Food Bank Collection

5th December 2021Miss H WRIGHT
Last term, we asked our students to contribute to the local Foodbank which covers the Hinckley area and the people in crisis.
Our school community did an outstanding job in donating what they did, with the total amount weighing in it at 584.3kg, giving it a value of £1022.53, which we were blown away by.
We wanted to thank you for your kindness and support, which made such a difference to those that needed it over Christmas.

Ofsted 2021

26th October 2021Miss H WRIGHT

Ofsted 2021

We are delighted to be celebrating the outcome of our recent Ofsted inspection that took place in September 2021. During the two days, inspectors visited lessons, met with staff and students, examined student books and explored the leadership of the school. The school was judged as being “good” in every category and therefore “good” overall.

The report commented on the noticeable pride staff and students have in the school, the quality of the academic and personal education provided and on the positive relationships and culture created to achieve this.

“I am extremely proud of our students, staff and parents for this achievement. It is the result of a great deal of hard work and reflects our commitment to provide an excellent all-round education where our students achieve superb qualifications and develop the skills and knowledge that will make them successful and valuable members of our global community.” Matt Nicolle – Principal

What Ofsted say about us:

  • Pupils and staff are very proud of their school. They say that this is a happy school. Staff care for pupils well. Older pupils recognise that the school has improved in the last four years. Pupils speak warmly of the support they receive.
  • Pupils and their parents and carers say that the school makes sure that pupils are safe.
  • Pupils know what bullying is and are confident that adults would deal with it appropriately, should it happen. Incidents of bullying are rare.
  • Pupils’ conduct is polite. They behave well in lessons and at breaktimes. There is a calm and orderly feel to the school.
  • The school’s values, ‘Redmoor DNA’, underpin the life of the school.
  • Staff have high expectations and pupils’ learning and progress. The climate for learning is positive and engaging.
  • Leaders are ambitious for everyone to do well in all aspects of school life. This is a school that serves its community well.
  • Senior leaders have improved the school since the previous inspection.
  • The principal has set out a clear vision and direction.
  • Leaders have ensured that the curriculum is broad in its scope. Subject leaders identify the precise knowledge and skills that they want pupils to learn.
  • Teachers use assessment well to determine what pupils have learned and refine plans for pupils’ next steps in learning.
  • Leaders are developing a culture that recognises the importance of reading and literacy.
  • Teachers support pupils with special educational needs and/or disabilities by adapting curriculum plans to meet their needs. These pupils receive effective support in lessons.
  • Leaders are addressing barriers to learning for disadvantaged pupils.
  • Pupils behave well. They conduct themselves positively around the school. They respond well to adults’ high expectations. Low-level disruption in lessons is very rare.
  • Leaders foster an inclusive ethos.
  • Leaders work to promote pupils’ personal development is strong.
  • Governors and trustees are mindful of staff welfare, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic. They are ambitious for all pupils and the school community

GCSEPod Launch

3rd September 2021Miss H WRIGHT

We are delighted to announce that Redmoor Academy has recently invested in GCSEPod, the award-winning digital revision provider used by over 1,250 schools worldwide.

Our Key Stage 4 students now have access to GCSEPod’s library of over 6,000 ‘Pods,’ 3-5 minute videos designed to deliver knowledge in short bursts. GCSEPod makes learning and revision much more manageable: every Pod is mapped to an exam board and contains all the right facts, quotations, keywords, dates and annotated diagrams that students need for GCSE success – all neatly organised into topics and exam playlists.

Your child has already been registered with GCSEPod, so all they need to do now is activate their account by following the instructions below. If they have any issues with this then they can ask their tutor or IT support (Mr Surti or Mr Trown).

  • On a web browser, go to www.gcsepod.com and click ‘Sign in with Google’
  • Enter their school email address and click ‘Next’
  • Select Redmoor Academy from the list of schools
  • Enter the ‘username’ and ‘password’ used for their school email account then click ‘Continue’ to verify the account
  • Students will then be prompted to create a username, a password and a password hint to help them remember the password (these details will be used for logging into the app so we suggest making the username their school email address and making the password the same one they use for their school email account too)
  • Untick any courses that are not studied and click ‘Save’
  • An email link will then be sent to your child’s school email address in order to confirm their GCSEPod account

After getting set up for the first time, students will be able to sign in from any web browser using the “Sign in with Google” function. GCSEPod also has an app available in the Apple or Android app stores and this can be logged into with the username and password your child has set up. Please note that your child will need to activate their account on the www.gcsepod.com site first.

It’s that simple! Once they’ve activated their account, your child can browse the GCSEPod library and create their own playlists – just as they would when they’re listening to music. In fact, one of the best things about GCSEPod is that students can download any Pod to a mobile device, so they can watch them at any time, in any place, with or without internet. It’s like they’re carrying a whole set of textbooks in their pocket!

This year teachers will set some of your child’s homework using GCSEPod – as well as encouraging its use for independent study, research and revision. GCSEPod has the ability to identify knowledge gaps and automatically send playlists to help fill them. After completing any homework set on GCSEPod, your child will get a personalised “Boost Playlist” of Pods relevant to their identified areas of weakness. We strongly suggest you encourage your child to review these playlists regularly as this will speed up their progress.

GCSEPod is crammed with brilliant features, from GCSE-style assessment questions and Check & Challenge knowledge quizzes, to revision skills support and help with dealing with exam-related stress.

We recommend that you talk about GCSEPod with your son or daughter – check that they’ve successfully activated their account and encourage them to make use of this amazing resource throughout their GCSE journey. We’ve also attached a handy ‘Quick Start Guide’. Additionally, please visit www.gcsepod.com/parents where you’ll find lots more information and resources.

If you have any questions regarding GCSEPod please do not hesitate to contact us.

Yours sincerely,

Mrs K. Nichols and Mrs H. Jenkins

Assistant Principals

Return to School

17th August 2021Miss H WRIGHT

We hope you have had a wonderful summer break and are looking forward, as we are, to students being back to school in the week commencing Monday 23rd August. We have finalised the LFT testing schedule and are delighted to confirm that we are able to stick to our planned return dates for all year groups;

Testing Date Return to School Date
Years 7 & 11 Monday 23rd August Tuesday 24th August
Years 8, 9 & 10 Tuesday 24th August Wednesday 25th August

For their return, please ensure students are in full school uniform and bring with them normal school equipment such as pens, pencils, rulers etc. As we mentioned in our communication in July, students are only permitted to wear a small discreet stud piercing in each ear and a watch – which must be able to be removed for PE lessons. All other piercings must be removed for school and hair colour should be natural.

We have reverted back to to our original times for the school day for all students;

  • Students should be on site no later than 8.35am for an 8.40am start
  • The school day ends at 3pm

All year groups will have time with their form tutors and assemblies on the first day back with Year 7 having an extended morning on their first day as part of their induction into Redmoor.

It is not only exciting to welcome students back for the new school year but to be able to do so knowing we can provide a full Redmoor experience for the first time in nearly two years. We will continue to promote excellent hand hygiene and hand sanitiser will be readily available. After their initial two LFT tests in school, students will be expected to continue testing at home throughout September. We are awaiting delivery of these tests and will notify you when we send these home with students.

As always, we look forward to your support and involvement in the academic year ahead and meeting you at the relevant events planned for your child.

I hope you enjoy the remaining days of the summer break.

Kind regards,

Matt Nicolle

Principal

We are excited for our annual REC programme next week, providing our students with a fantastic range of opportunities beyond the classroom.

Our KS3 students will be taking part in a variety of enrichment activities, including residential visits abroad, residentials within the UK and a wide range of school-based activities and day trips.

This is an amazing opportunity for all our students to develop new skills, build confidence and resilience, gain valuable experiences and create lasting memories!

We will do our best to keep our Facebook page updated throughout the week with photos and highlights from the many activities taking place. But please bear with our staff, they will be busy supporting students and making these experiences as rewarding as possible.

At the same time, our Year 10 students will be embarking on their work experience placements, spending the week in professional environments linked to their interests and future aspirations. We wish them luck with this invaluable experience outside of Redmoor.

We can’t wait to see what all of our students achieve during this exciting week!
